The Man In Between

2001. Steen returns home to Denmark after a grand backpacker tour of Central America. After his arrival, he finds difficulty relating to his family and friends and he decides to move to the capital. But loneliness and everyday life hit him hard.It is as if the worn Vesterbro apartment whispers to him and he feels pursued by something unseen;strange dreams about a Latino girl haunt him.

One day the doorbell rings–he is faced with the charming Carlos,telling him that he has helped Steen home from a wet night out. Steen quickly finds, that Carlos is strongly enthusiastic about politics and the injustices of capitalism. They become mutually convinced that the United States is the main source of world injustice, and decide to stage a leftist autonomous event against the United States.

Suddenly, planes crash into New York’s World Trade Center on 9/11, coming as a slap in the face of Steen. He finds himself torn – the sudden doubt sends him into a pit of darkness. In desperation, he attempts to do away with himself;something happened on his trip to Central America, something Steen didn't tell anyone…
